This project is aimed at providing a simple program to deal with your ISP usage meter data. We are attempting to make the usage meter data display a bit easier to use. The Usage Agent is written in C++ and uses an XML document to store usage data. The XML document is located in the program’s data directory.

Usage Agent was inspired by software written by “Opus” and “Otter”. OPM, a program created by Otter, is also similar to Usage Agent. We feel that it would be good to create a system like this in the hopes that it will save a lot of time for everyone.

1. Usage Agent

Usage Agent is a simple C++ program that displays usage meter data from ISP’s. Usage Agent uses an XML document to store usage data. It is mainly meant to be used with ISP’s using “shaped” plans, and also as a guide to usage meter data manipulation. The XML document can be stored and then read at a later date to produce a report on usage.

Usage Agent allows the user to change the displayed text, to turn off or on network adapter monitor, and to view and save a report on usage.

System Requirements:
This program was tested with Windows XP SP2, Windows 2000 SP4, Windows 98 SE SP3. It is unknown if the program will work on Windows NT 4.0. It is also unknown if the program will work with other Windows operating systems.

Installation:
1. This program is designed to be installed into the Program Files directory. If the program is not found in the Program Files directory, it will be installed to the desktop. The directory where the program is installed will be named “usageagent”. If the program is already installed, you will be able to access the program through “usageagent”. The “usageagent” directory will contain two files:

usageagent.ini (needed to run program)
usageagent.dll (needed to use program)

The program will also be in the Users directory.
