This game is an adventure/RPG with light combat elements. You play as a child of the sea who stumbles upon a girl, who is being kidnapped by some sort of Kraken or something. Your goal is to rescue the girl. The story is interesting, a little dark, and there are some trials along the way. The graphics are a little dated, but the game is very playable and the combat is nothing fancy, but you can summon and use all kinds of water attacks for offensive and defensive purposes.
One of my all-time favourite games, Halo is a series of military-themed shooter games and the first game, Halo 1, revolutionised gaming and even shifted the industry on its head. Set on the planet of the same name, the games follow the fate of the Master Chief in his fight against the Covenant. Its one of the best games ever made, and to this day is one of the few games to mix co-op play with the Campaign mode. If you buy the 1st disk, you’ll find that the map creator is on there with options for the Red team, Blue team, and even an AI version of your own.
While the game is free to play in exchange for adverts, there are in-app purchases to buy extra perks, and extra access to the game modes. It adds a bit of depth for those wanting it, but otherwise its essentially a cash grab and complete mugging of the player. Ultimately it comes down to the question of what you want out of the game, and if this is it. If youre looking for a game that resembles Counter-Strike, but with palm-jawing point-of-view gameplay, then youll struggle to get much out of this, but if youre looking for a game that experiments with modern gameplay, then it’s worth at least a check.
The graphics are at least impressive, even if theyre hampered by a couple of design decisions. Aside from cut-scene dialogues, most of the text is conveniently limited to the bottom-left corner of the screen, and never appears to be anything other than a thin bar. It makes for very busy games, and from what Ive seen from regular players, is pretty annoying when trying to sprint, especially in fast-forward mode. The huge loading times between each mission also hurt, and make missions take much longer than they should. While the lack of a UI hurts the game in a different way, making some navigation really tricky, such as the inability to zoom in to take notes of locations. However, the maps for missions are excellent, with a small but useful minimap on the top right corner of the screen, and the overall presentation is pretty impressive.
There were some flaws in the game, for instance, ‘Hotter than Hell’ missions are really difficult. It seems like theyre barely more than trying to survive as long as possible. Theyre prone to breaking down all over the place, and theyre so difficult that its easy to get stuck in the same spot for an hour before you can figure out how to move on. These are repeated in the survival missions, but are also more direct in terms of the time you have. Its also not very inspired. While the idea of an intense survival mission sounds thrilling, the entire thing plays out like an episode of Ninja Warrior, with the same moves and patterns, with minor modifications. You could pretty much play the same game on the same track and still get through them.
