Geography Through Maps By K Siddhartha Ebook –

Simulations can be run for real and long-term (e.g. 150 years) or for short-term (e.g. 50 years) and long (e.g. 30 years) timescales. The choice is dependent on the district’s approach towards energy efficiency, how many renewable projects have to be built and installed, and the future price of carbon trading.

The ultimate objective is optimisation of the transition strategy for all costs taken into account, which is achieved through modelling and optimisation processes. In this phase scale-up and optimisation of renewable energy potentials, passive building technologies, energy storage, residence sector considerations for energy efficiency, and building and district energy utilisation models are important steps taken. The evaluation results are integrated into the energy optimisation of the district.

The final stage is the life-cycle assessments of the district’s energy systems and the use of its newly discovered energy resources and the built-in zero-energy footprint conditions to define the sustainable energy resources. Realisation of energy sustainability requires a net-zero-carbon-emission district with respect to its use of energy, energy generation, and the built environment. A zero-carbon-emission approach involves the virtual offsetting of energy consumption and all other CO2 emissions produced in the implementation of the district’s sustainable energy resources. The CO2 lifetime footprint of buildings, industry, vehicular emissions, and energy generation must be equal to or smaller than that of the existing infrastructures or features. The concept of a zero-carbon footprint is based on the assumption that the district’s energy systems can utilise “free” energy and are able to have zero-net carbon emissions. Therefore, local energy use patterns become central.

In the case of zero-carbon-emission districts, there are two main strategies of utilisation of local energy resources. The first is that the district’s energy use and primary generation are entirely supplied from zero-carbon sources. The second is that extensive usage of renewable energies are realised, and conventional energy consumption and primary generation are used as back-up or supplementary.
