To eliminate redundant fonts when we find that the first encountered font name is the same as the currently-enumerated font, we made the following modification:

Fonts that aren’t available in the operating system can have several causes:

The operating system doesn’t know which fonts you want to use.
The operating system doesn’t know which fonts it can use.
The operating system doesn’t know whether or not the font is available for the printer.
The printer is using a font that is not on the operating system’s list.
The printer driver doesn’t know how to use the font.

Device type font substitution occurs when the printer driver itself substitutes the fonts it provides for the fonts that the operating system provides. This is similar to device font substitution, except that you are not using the operating system to determine whether or not to make the substitution. The substitute font is substituted each time you print. The operating system uses an invalid font instead of the font that you have chosen for printing. For example, the printer driver might provide a font that looks much like Times-New-Roman, but will substitute the font with a font that looks like Times-Old-Style.
