Seeing layers

When you open Photoshop, you see the basic setup of your document, as shown in Figure 1-2.

FIGURE 1-2: The classic setup in Photoshop features a project document on the left, the Layers panel on the right, and an image that’s loaded in the center.

The Layers panel (shown in the upper-right corner in Figure 1-2) serves as the central component, providing a workspace for organizing, moving, and overlaying layers in your document. It may display a variety of layer types, including Background, Gradient Map, and so on. The numbers at the top of the Layers panel indicate the number of layers in your image.

Each layer has its own size, which may be changed by dragging it in or out of the Layers panel. You can also edit a layer’s opacity. (See “Adjusting a layer’s opacity,” later in this chapter, for details.)

You can add individual layers, or groups of layers, to your document. When you add a layer, it is named and you see a box to the right of it, as shown in Figure 1-3. The box provides a grid that enables you to place additional layers precisely. (See “Adding Layers” later in the chapter for more on this topic.) You also can add layers via the New Layer button.

FIGURE 1-3: The box on the right of each layer serves as a staging area for adding additional elements.

When you load an image into Photoshop, you see the image on the Background layer. That’s the layer that actually contains the image, and it may be blurred or have a drop shadow. The Layers panel is where you create any other layers you use to

While Photoshop has been the most popular software of the graphics community for many years, Adobe Photoshop is seen by many as being too complicated and hard to use.

Is there a free alternative to Photoshop?

In the following sections, we take a look at what photographers use when they edit or make new images.

The most popular software for this purpose is still Photoshop, along with the alternative, Adobe Photoshop Elements. However, it is important to acknowledge that many of the features only work in a digital darkroom, using raw data.

Adobe Photoshop vs Adobe Photoshop Elements

There is a huge range of features available in the full version of Photoshop. Much of that range is for professionals such as designers or 3D content creators, and the software is a complete toolbox for anyone who works with digital images.

However, the number of features available and their location are different in the Elements version. While the version allows you to do the same things, it is far simpler to use and has less of a learning curve.

Adobe Photoshop vs Adobe Photoshop Elements – which one is best?

This is a difficult question to answer, as there are many features in the professional version that aren’t available in the elements version.

Regardless of which version you use, however, Adobe Photoshop is a known and trusted software and is still used by many photographers. It may be that the question is which version you are learning, not which software you are learning.

You might also be looking for free alternatives to Photoshop, which is different to a free alternative to Photoshop Elements. The feature sets vary, but in most cases these are tools that can be used to edit images. Photoshop, and the Elements version, can be used to create images or to edit already created images.

GIMP, Microsoft Paint, Paint.NET, etc

Pixelmator is a modern pixel-based photo editor also available for macOS and Windows operating systems. It has all the high-end features of Photoshop and a large user interface that can be easily navigated.

It is designed to be simple to use, yet powerful and advanced enough to edit almost any type of photo. It is compatible with several file formats, and has many plugins to add more functionality.

Like Photoshop, it supports RAW and JPEG files. However, not many RAW cameras support this type of format, and using RAW files can result in larger files that take longer to work with.

Q:

ColorCube.js on Highcharts not working

I am trying to use color cube using Highcharts as a style, but it is not rendering anything.
I am using the following code:

$(function () {
var chart = new Highcharts.chart({
chart : {
renderTo: ‘color-cube-wrapper’,
type : ‘column’,
height : 400,
plotBackgroundColor: null,
plotBorderWidth: null,
plotShadow: false
},

title: {
text: ‘Column’
},

subtitle: {
text: ‘Column subtotal’
},

xAxis: {
categories: [‘Jan’, ‘Feb’, ‘Mar’, ‘Apr’, ‘May’, ‘Jun’, ‘Jul’, ‘Aug’, ‘Sep’, ‘Oct’, ‘Nov’, ‘Dec’]
},

yAxis: {
min: 0
},

What’s New in the?

Q:

Count dictionary key in Django

I have a dictionary and want to count how many of the keys match a certain value.
My model:
class ActiveDevice(models.Model):
#…

My serializer:
class ActiveDeviceSerializer(serializers.ModelSerializer):
#…

class Meta:
model = ActiveDevice
fields = ‘__all__’

And my view:
class ActiveDeviceView(generics.ListCreateAPIView):
#…

def get_queryset(self):
return ActiveDevice.objects.filter(state=self.request.GET[‘state’])

def get(self, request, *args, **kwargs):
serializer = ActiveDeviceSerializer(self.queryset, many=True)
return Response(serializer.data)

def post(self, request, *args, **kwargs):
serializer = ActiveDeviceSerializer(data=request.data)
if serializer.is_valid():
serializer.save()
return Response(serializer.data, status=201)
return Response(serializer.errors, status=400)

Now I am trying to count how many of the keys match a certain value in the JSON body.
I want to do it after serialization (for performance reasons) instead of after the database query.
How do I do this?

A:

You can use the.annotate() method of the serializer to add the count of the items as a new field to the serializer.
If I understand your question correctly, you want to count the number of devices that are active, right?
class ActiveDeviceSerializer(serializers.ModelSerializer):
#…

class Meta:
model = ActiveDevice
fields = ‘__
