Data Sources:
Data sources are where your current and future weather information comes from. You can choose from four different options and one ‘custom’ option.
The options are:
Cloud-Based:
This is the default option. This allows you to get weather data from online sources such as the
Meteorological Service of Canada (MSC)
(weather.gc.ca) and the
American Meteorological Service (AMS)
(weather.noaa.gov).
If you choose this option, choose the number of seconds between when the last forecast update was downloaded and the last update received from the server. If you have only Internet access, set this to 0 to have the last update downloaded as soon as it is received on the server.
Set the number of seconds to allow for changing the weather data source between forecasts. Choose a value from 1 to 14 to allow for two hours of forecast updating per interval, including the time required to download the next forecast. A default value of 5 seconds is used if you don’t choose an alternative.
The ‘default’ option gives you the ability to update the data from a local database (such as one created with AppSensor) when this application is running. The database will contain information about known local weather sources that can be updated at any time.
Please note that the default option is not compatible with local weather data, because the application assumes the data is always updated.
Local data:
Using a local database, this option allows you to update the weather at a set interval. The interval can be set to anything from 1 minute to 1 day. The default value is 1 hour. If you use this option, you have to download the local database at startup. For a more detailed description, see the Local Database section.
Custom data:
You can also choose to use a custom data source. This option is detailed in the Custom Data section.
In addition to selecting data sources, you can choose the frequency at which the temperature data will be updated. The default value is set to 1 minute. The default frequency for precipitation data is also one minute.
