It can run programs from disk images
The application does not require installation, but rather you can run it as soon as you decompress the archive. The idea for the tool is that it is able to run programs from disk images, the latter being single files that are the size of an Apple floppy disk. You can get started by clicking on Drive 1 button from the toolbar located in the right side of the GUI. Once the program is booted, go to the Settings icon, select Uthernet – which is disabled by default – and choose the interface you want to work with. As a good thing, Apple does not consider it a crime to emulate the hardware of its old machines, unlike the French where using emulators of computers are illegal. AppleWin allows you to run programs from disk images and it is a very useful tool if you need to load up your old games or save data for later use.

I am a long-time Apple II user and have fond memories of my Macs running the Apple ][ with only its emulator DTS-20.4. I really miss this product, so I loaded up AppleWin and went to work. It took me about 10 minutes to get to the point where I could load any of my old games to work with. After that, it was a piece of cake to load the data I needed. The emulator runs on any Windows machine without any installation. It is a really neat product that I am grateful for.

Selecting the drive button from the toolbar will boot the corresponding disk image. You can boot from any of the disks and it should work. You can also create your own disk images by providing the desired content. You can also get an overview of the emulated computer from the help menu.
The emulated computer, however, is a rather poor little computer. It can boot from disk images, but you cannot save your data there. You are expected to use removable media such as the Zip disks. You can access some files from the disk image, however, it is not that intuitive, not that you can run a real application and a real editor on the disk image and get better results.
If you do have a Zip disk, you can also install programs from it. In order to make it easier for you, you can copy any executable files you wish to to the disk image folder. In case you have a shared folder on your network, you can upload your content to it.
You can get a good overview of the file system of the emulated computer from the help menu. However, it does not include tools such as Fink, DMG or Quark.
In case you want to save your data, you can use external disk images. The default external disk image is one file that is about the size of a Zip disk. You are expected to create your own disk images that can include any kind of files and data you need.

The interface is clean and simple. On top of the interface, you can see the volume and all the running programs. Under the interface, you see a row of eight icons, which represent the eight available drives. The leftmost drive shows the image of a tiny computer that can be used for practicing. For your convenience, it also offers a “What’s inside?” button to view the content of the disk, as well as your Internet settings. You can also select the icon for System and Restore that will let you boot the computer from the selected drive.

If so, I’d be interested in seeing what you have. I’m just about finished restoring my Apple II Plus and I want to get as many games as possible from it as well as get the internet on it. I figure it would be quicker and easier to copy the disks over rather than try to find a way to put the internet on it.

I did some more testing with the tool. It appears to be doing everything as advertised and the interface is pretty easy to navigate, even if you are not familiar with it.
I just tested how to remove the software. It asks you to confirm whether to remove the program and then disables it to avoid a possible hang. While it boots up after a few seconds, I don’t know how long it will take if it takes longer. I did not wait long enough to know.

Here is an example of how to remove the software. You can see I have the options to install a folder, remove it completely or auto-remove.

1. In the screenshot above, I clicked on the Folder icon.
