hi all, i have recently installed 16.04 on my laptop. i also have a gtx 970 video card, but no drivers are installed. after the installation is completed and i reboot, the screen shows up on the login screen. but it only shows a small black screen with a mouse pointer in the top left corner. and the screen locks after about 2 min. how do i go about installing the drivers?
hi guys, i’ve been struggling with this issue for a couple of weeks now. i have a lenovo g580 laptop, and i’ve been trying to get dual monitor setup to work since i got this machine. i’ve tried to use the nvidia optimus drivers, and the bumblebee drivers, both of which didn’t work at all. i would get a black screen whenever i would boot up my laptop. i’m running ubuntu 16.04 x64 with kernel 4.4.0-31-generic

if you’re having issues installing the drivers, make sure that you have run the installer as administrator, and make sure that the windows firewall is disabled and that your firewall program is not blocking the windows update site. if you’re still not able to install the drivers, try the following steps:

i have the same problem. i have an asus p8z77-v pro motherboard with a gigabyte ga-z77a-ud3h motherboard running a stock intel graphics card, and an asus a80 wi-fi card. the problem seems to be that it only uses the integrated graphics card for video playback, and that i can only get the integrated graphics to work in 3d games like world of warcraft and borderlands. all other video games and anything that requires the nvidia graphics card does not work at all. i have tried installing the nvidia drivers from nvidia, but i get a black screen whenever i play a video. i have tried this on linux mint, and fedora.
i have a amd cpu, and an amd graphics card. i have a laptop that i am using. when i start the laptop, i get a black screen. what i did was to download the amd radeon drivers, and install it. then, i restarted, and it worked, but everytime i close the lid, the laptop goes back to the black screen. i have tried everything, and i dont know what else to do. i downloaded the catalyst drivers from amd, but that didnt work either. i am running ubuntu 16.04.
